Baby Namings
The birth of a baby is a joyous event, not just for the family, but for the entire Jewish community.
It is customary for Boys to undergo a Brit Milah, or ritual circumcision on the eighth day of life, if health permits. The SOJC office is available to help with obtaining the services of a Mohel. At this ceremony, the baby is given his Hebrew name.
For Girls, a formal baby naming in front of the community at a Shabbat service may be arranged. The baby and family are called to the Torah, receive a blessing from the Rabbi, and the baby and her Hebrew name is formally reveled to the community. Please call the SOJC office to assist with planning this joyous event.
